A Tankless Water Heater Does More than Hold Water
Heating water in your home when it’s not needed can add up to higher energy costs. The traditional, tank-style water heater uses gas continuously to keep the entire tank of water hot, even when you don’t need it. A tankless water heater is far more efficient because it only uses energy to heat water when there is a demand for it. There is no standing pilot light.
Water enters the heater only when hot water is called for somewhere in the home. The water is heated as it passes through the heater. As long as you have water, you will never run out of HOT water! Because water is not collected in the system, corrosion is not an issue. This extends the life of an on-demand, tankless water heater to about 20 years, almost twice that of an average storage tank water heater. We highly recommend a tankless water heater be tuned up once a year.

How does it work and what are the benefits?
The biggest benefit is endless hot water. When you turn on a hot water faucet in your home, a flow sensor begins to spin and immediately activates the burner, so water is heated as it travels through. You have an endless supply of hot water. As long as you have water, you will have HOT water. The second benefit is you only heat the water you use.
When you turn that same faucet off, the sensor stops spinning and the burner shuts off. The water first goes into a stainless steel heat exchanger that uses the heat from the exhaust to preheat the water and then that preheated water goes into the cooper heat exchanger that uses the heat from the burner. That’s what makes this Navien tankless water heater so efficient- it uses 2 heat sources, exhaust and burner. Because of the efficiency, almost all of the heat is transferred to the water, and very little of that heat is going out into the exhaust. The temperate is controlled electronically, which means you can set it digitally to your desired temperature.
Safety
When we install a tankless water heater there are important safety modifications required. We cannot use your existing water heater flue. Because of the condensation created in the exhaust by a high efficient tankless water heater, we must install 2 PVC pipes, one for intake air and one is the exhaust which is typically vented out the side of your home.
