Recent storms had our Anthony on-call plumbers out past 1 am servicing and replacing sump pumps. Sump pumps get a real workout this time of year, but if a thunderstorm causes a power outage, the sump pump can’t pump. This will spell trouble for homeowners. The solution is surprisingly simple — a battery back-up sump pump.
A battery back-up pump will switch automatically to battery when power fails or your primary pump breaks. It will also pump along with your primary pump when there is more water than your primary pump can handle. With a battery back-up pump, sleep easy at night knowing your basement and belongings will stay dry even in a torrential downpour!
Sump Pump Tip
Check your sump pump regularly to make sure it is in proper working condition.
1) Remove the cover and slowly pour water into the sump pit.
2) Watch for the “float” to rise and trigger the pump.
3) Once the pump is engaged, the water level will quickly lower and the float will shut off the pump. This is what is called “a normal sump cycle”.
