GARBAGE DISPOSER TROUBLESHOOTING

November 9, 2009

The holidays are the most common time for garbage disposers to break. Here are a few tips for troubleshooting. If you hear humming, you can rule out an electrical problem. Try pressing the reset button on the bottom of the unit. If that doesn’t work, check to see that nothing is jamming the blades inside. (Use a long untensil to poke around while the disposer is off. Do not put your hand inside the disposer.)
If you DON’T hear anything, first check to see that it’s plugged in. Next check the circuit breaker. If the breaker has not tripped and the reset button is not popped out, then it’s either a faulty switch or a faulty garbage disposer. At that point you can try replacing the switch. If it still makes no noise, the garbage disposer is beyond repair and needs to be replaced. Give us a call and we’ll come take care of it. Happy holidays!
